About Halva

What is halva?

Halva is an exquisite, semi-sweet, uniquely textured, satisfying, and most of all, delicious dessert. Offered in a variety of flavors (we offer more than 20 varieties!), this Middle Eastern delight has captured hearts the world over.
Also known as halvah (Hebrew), halwa (Arabic), helve (Turkish), chalwa (Polish), these confections originated in the Middle East centuries ago. Halva’s main ingredient is sesame paste (tahini), giving it a texture that is soft, crumbly, and dense all at once. The sesame base lends a mild hint of nuttiness that makes it an ideal base for many flavor combinations.

How do we make halva?

The process of making Halva is time consuming, but one which we consider a labor of love. It begins by cooking Tahini at high temperatures. The next step is adding sweetener and flavoring and blending all the ingredients. The mixture is then poured into a mold, typically in the form of a cake, which is then allowed to harden. At the hands of a baker experienced in this art, the whole process takes a long time. When you see the end result and taste the deep flavors, you will see why!

Health benefits

Not only is Halva known for its palate-pleasing qualities, it is rich in antioxidant nutrients, vitamins, minerals and is a solid source of protein. Tahini is recognized for numerous health benefits including supporting bone health, promoting immune health, decreasing inflammation, assisting iron absorption, supporting healthy blood pressure, blood clotting mechanisms, and more.

Why we love it

One of the oldest traditional sweets to originate in the Middle East, halva is now enjoyed around the globe for its unique flavor, texture, mild sweetness, and natural ingredients. Whether you are trying it for the first time or re-discovering what was a childhood family favorite, we are here to offer you an exquisite selection of flavored halva.
